Xiaomi's popular
Hongmi phone has been under attack from
rival low-cost
smartphones for the past few months, Xiaomi's response? Reduce the
retail price of the already cheap Hongmi!
The
Xiaomi Hongmi launched ealier last year at an incredible 799 Yuan here in
China. Since the
launch though
rival phones from
Huawei,
Voto, Little Pepper,
iOcean and JiaYu have threatened over take the MIUI equipped
phone. To throw the market back in their favour
Xioami plans to reduce the price of the Hongmi to just 699 Yuan ($115), over $15 cheaper than the it's nearest rivals!
The price drop also falls Xiaomi's pattern of reducing current
phone prices ahead of the
launch of a new model. With
rumours of a
Xiaomi Hongmi 2 on the way, the reduction isn't all that surprising.
The
Xiaomi Hongmi is a the most afforable
phone in the Xiaomi range and features a
1280 x 720 display,
quad-core 1.5Ghz MT6589T processor, 1GB RAM, Samsung 8 mega-pixel rear camera, dual-SIM support and micro SD card reader.
