Two days after
Xiaomi introduced the SkyNomad brand, the N90 SUV has
received its full formal unveiling. The design details, internal codename, and flexible cabin concept are now officially confirmed — alongside a regulatory green light from China's MIIT and a surprise second model, the N90 MAX.
Summary
- Codename "Kunlun," cross-shaped headlights: The N90's distinctive front fascia features a cross-shaped headlight design with a sealed grille and embedded SkyNomad branding.
- Interior transforms into a studio, café, or reception room: Xiaomi's "variable large space" concept allows the cabin to be reconfigured for work, meetings, or leisure on the go.
- 5-seat and 7-seat versions confirmed: Both configurations will be offered, targeting families and business users equally.
- Standard LiDAR included: Laser radar sensors come fitted as standard — not an optional upgrade — enabling advanced driver assistance and environmental awareness.
- MIIT approval granted: Both SkyNomad plug-in hybrid SUV models received China market regulatory approval on July 10, clearing the path to sale.
- SkyNomad is NOT a Xiaomi sub-brand: Xiaomi clarified on the same day that SkyNomad is a separate independent series, not a sub-brand of Xiaomi Auto.
The Interior Is the Real Story
Xiaomi is describing the N90 as a "smart variable large-space SUV" — and the interior concept is what separates it from most family EVs. The cabin can be reconfigured into a studio for content creation, a mobile café, or a reception room for business meetings. That flexibility goes well beyond fold-flat seats. It implies a modular interior architecture with adjustable lighting, power outlets, screens, and seating orientations built around the idea that the vehicle is a living space as much as a transport tool.
The HyperOS integration runs through all of it. Xiaomi's operating system serves as the connectivity backbone — linking the vehicle to Xiaomi smartphones, smart home devices, and cloud services. That ecosystem play is what genuinely distinguishes this from a standard Chinese EV with a big screen on the dashboard.
N90 MAX Also Unveiled
The same day, Xiaomi unveiled the N90 MAX alongside the standard N90. It features a wheelbase exceeding 3 meters — larger than the N90's already generous 3.1m figure — with a distinct interior layout designed for maximum rear passenger space. Full specs for the MAX have not been confirmed yet.
Not a Sub-Brand — A Clarification That Matters
Xiaomi
specifically stated that SkyNomad is not a sub-brand of Xiaomi Auto. The distinction is similar to how Redmi operates separately from Xiaomi's main smartphone line — sharing parent company resources but operating with its own identity and market positioning. This matters for pricing expectations: SkyNomad may be positioned differently from Xiaomi's core SU7 and YU7 lineup, potentially targeting a more value-oriented family buyer rather than the performance-focused audience those vehicles attract.
