Today, on June 7, the South Korean smartphone maker announced the new Samsung Galaxy A9 Star/Star Lite in China. Actually, this event has been scheduled and even the phones have been available for pre-order. So nothing sudden happened. As for now, we should only write down these phones are out and they are available for 2999 yuan and 1999 yuan, respectively. Samsung has never been known for its cost-effective price philosophy, and these handsets don’t. So let’s take a quick glance at the specs list to understand their competitive edge.

In terms of appearance, the Samsung Galaxy A9 Star is packed with a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2220 x 1080 and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. The back uses a 3D glass material. It carries a fingerprint reader as well as a dual-camera arranged vertically. The phone comes with dimensions of 162.4x77x7.6mm and a weight of 191g. There are two color options including black and white.

The Samsung Galaxy A9 Star sports a super mid-range Snapdragon 660 chip, which is coupled with a 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a 3700mAh battery. The rest of features include a 24MP front shooter, a 16MP + 24MP rear camera using a double-aperture of f/1.7 and supporting 4 times oversampling technology. The phone supports face unlock and it comes with pre-installed Bixby voice assistant.

At the same time, the A9 Star uses both the 3.5mm audio jack and a USB Type-C interface. As for other connectivity options, it supports NFC and Bluetooth 5.0. At last, there is a Dolby Panorama Sound.

Its sibling, the Samsung Galaxy A9 Star Lite is packed with a 6-inch Super AMOLED display providing a 2220 x 1080 resolution, a metal body, and adopts an ‘anti-double-bracket’ antenna design. Its dimensions are 160.2 x 75.7 x 7.9mm and it weighs 191g. Two color options are available – black and blue.

As for hardware, the phone sports a Snapdragon 450 chip paired with a 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a 3500mAh battery. But it uses a common micro USB port. The same 24MP selfie shooter is on the front. It supports face unlock and real-time virtualization. But on the back, it carries a 16MP + 5MP camera,

The rest of key features include a pre-installed Bixby voice assistant, 3.5 headphone jack, a three -card slot design, NFC/Bluetooth 4.2 support as well as Dolby Panorama Sound.

Both models will go on sale starting June 15. But it’s a big question whether these handsets can compete with the national flagships like the Xiaomi Mi 8, Lenovo Z5, and others.
