Galaxy S9

Samsung has finally started rolling out the latest May 2020 Android Security patch update to its two older flagship series namely Galaxy S8 duo and Galaxy S9 duo. Since the official release of Android 10 by Google, the chaebol has drastically improved its software updates rollout schedule. We have seen devices getting the new major update ahead of the schedule which is something new for South Korean giant. With that said, the two forgotten flagship Galaxy S lineup has now started receiving the latest security patch, and here is everything you need to know.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Duo May 2020 Security Update

The smartphone maker has now started seeding the latest security patch to the unlocked variants of the device. Apart from the new security patch, the update does not bring anything new to the devices. The update has already rolled out to the bulk of devices already and if you haven’t, then you should be getting it anytime soon. As of now, the update is currently rolling out only in the United States. With that said, it should definitely hit more regions in the coming days or weeks.

For those who’re unaware, the Samsung Galaxy S9 duo is currently in its third-year stage of monthly updates. This means that after this year, the device will be moved to the quarterly schedule. Furthermore, the company is also working on a stripped-down version of its One UI 2.1 update for the lineup. There is no official information on when the update will start to roll out.

Galaxy S8 Duo Receives May 2020 Update As Well

Apart from the S9 duo, Galaxy S8 Duo is also sharing the latest May 2020 Android security update. The update has already started rolling out in Germany and the United Kingdom. As expected, more countries will soon follow the suit. The new update is arriving with the build number G95xFXXS9DTEA. Just like with S9, the update doesn’t come with any changes or additions. Since Galaxy S8 has already completed its three-year monthly update cycle, the device will now be officially getting software updates quarterly. These updates will only include the latest security patch and some bug fixes (if any). This means that we will not see any major update hitting towards the S8 duo.

You should already receive the update notification on your device if you meet the region criterion. If that’s not the case, you can always manually download and install the update via the Settings app.
