Samsung is currently testing 8K 60fps video recording on Galaxy S22 prototype

Just recently, sales of the flagship Samsung Galaxy S21 series of smartphones started, which included the S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra models. Now, the first rumors have surfaced about the next generation called Galaxy S22.

Chinese sources report that Samsung is currently testing the 8K 60fps video recording feature on the first Galaxy S22 prototype. However, at this stage, the prototype overheats after 5 minutes.

Galaxy S22

Samsung previously added 8K video recording to the Galaxy S20 smartphones and allowed shooting at 24fps, but due to overheating issues, users can only record 5 minutes of video. Earlier it was reported that an 8K video on the Samsung Galaxy S20 grows to 3 GB in 5 minutes. Allegedly for this reason, Samsung has set the bar at the 5 minute mark. The Galaxy S21 has the same limitation.

This raises the question: what platform does Samsung use to prototype the Galaxy S22. After all, the Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 1200 SoCs only support 8K video recording at 30fps (but can play 8K at 60fps). Samsung is expected to release its new Exynos SoC in the second half of this year, which supports 8K video recording at 60fps.

The insider adds that if the overheating problem persists, then Samsung may delay the addition of this feature until the Galaxy S23 launches.
