Motorola RAZR 3 will pack two larger displays

Motorola is gearing up to introduce a new generation of foldable smartphones. The company’s RAZR series returned with an appeal to nostalgia thanks to the design that resembled the old RAZR smartphones. However, this wasn’t enough to make the device a huge hit like the Galaxy Z Fold series. The biggest problems were the pricing and the non-appealing specifications. While Samsung and others launched flagship foldable, Motorola unveiled a premium foldable with Snapdragon 7xx series SoCs. Now, the company is returning to the foldable segment with the Motorola RAZR 3 in a bid to take a ride in the well-established foldable segment. The technology has matured and the prices are going down, therefore, Motorola seems ready to launch a modern foldable with flagship specs.

Motorola RAZR 3 alleged specifications

According to the popular insider, Ross Young from DSSC, the device will come with a bigger screen cover. That’s something massive, it’s set at a 3.0-inch diagonal. However, that is a decent upgrade over the 2.7-inch found on the Motorola RAZR 5G. Furthermore, the foldable display will also reach a bigger 6.7-inch diagonal. That’s also a slight, but a noticeable upgrade over the 6.2-inch panel. According to the leakster, the display will come from a China Star manufacturer.

Unlike its predecessor, the Motorola RAZR 3 will be running a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. However, Motorola is also planning a variant with the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset. The device will pack a 120 Hz panel and we assume it’ll be an OLED screen. The handset will likely ship with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and will allow users to capture selfies with the main camera setup. The phone will come with a dual-camera setup. Motorola is truly embracing the “modern” designs with the RAZR 3. The device will also have a more “blocky” design than its predecessor.

This time around, Motorola may be creating a true competitor for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. Samsung’s clamshell foldable smartphone will come in August, and similar to the Z Fold 3 will pack 2022-ready specifications such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chips.

One of the big challenges that Motorola needs to overcome is the battery size of this device. The previous Motorola RAZR generations brought lackluster battery capacities. Samsung isn’t able to overcome the 4,000 mAh capacity barrier with the upcoming Z Flip 3, so we don’t know if Motorola will be. Hopefully, we’ll see something beyond the tepid 2,500 mAh capacity. The device already had its design exposed through leaked shots.
