HONOR is gearing up to launch its next flagship, the
Honor Magic8, and it looks set to combine cutting-edge hardware with ambitious AI features. Earlier today, HONOR CEO James Li introduced the idea of “AI Self-Evolution” on Weibo. He described it as AI that continuously grows smarter through use, calling it a key step for large language models on the path to general intelligence.
According to Li, this ability to learn and adapt in real time will define the next generation of AI-powered devices.
Honor Magic8: AI at the Push of a Button
Backing up the CEO’s comments, Chinese tech blogger “厂长是关同学” highlighted a design change that makes the Honor Magic8 stand out. It will feature a dedicated AI button on the side of the phone. The button will activate practical AI features, turning HONOR’s concept of “AI Self-Evolution” into something tangible for everyday use.
It's an interesting addition, especially when we compare it with Apple's strategy in China. The upcoming iPhone 17 is expected to keep a similar button layout as before, but it reportedly won’t integrate AI functions in China. HONOR, on the other hand, is using hardware design to showcase what it sees as a competitive edge in the AI era.
Camera Firepower - 200MP In Tow
The Honor Magic8, of course, brings more than AI features. Reports suggest it will debut with a 200-megapixel telephoto lens, a move that places it among the most advanced imaging devices in the market. HONOR has a good track record when it comes to camera features, with the new 200MP sensor, photography will remain a central focus of the Magic series.
For HONOR, the AI button and the new camera system are both symbols of the same philosophy: taking ambitious concepts and turning them into features people can actually use. “This innovation underscores our commitment to transforming AI into practical, everyday value for users,” the company said in a statement.
With the autumn flagship season approaching, the Honor Magic8 is shaping up as one of the most anticipated launches. Between the 200MP camera and the push for AI-driven features, HONOR is clearly aiming to redefine what people expect from a smartphone.
