It looks like
Samsung will change
its entire power saving feature with the
One UI 8.5 coming in the future. A
leaked screenshot hints at a redesigned system that could make battery
management more useful and flexible than ever before.
A
Step Beyond One UI 8
The current Power Saving mode in One
UI 8 offers only a simple on/off switch with a few minor adjustments compared
to
One UI 7.
That will change in
One UI 8.5, which looks set to bring new
profiles and deeper custom options. It will also give more details about how much battery life a user can save.
Two
Profiles, Different Purposes
Instead of relying on a single
toggle, One UI 8.5 may add two distinct profiles. These preset modes appear to
focus on balancing usability with power efficiency. It removes the need for
constant manual tweaking.
The first profile is the Standard
profile, and it is designed for daily power savings. It reduces data consumed in
the background, automatic syncing, and location checks.
It grants users the
ability to include further restrictions if needed. Overall, this profile is
expected to improve battery life without limiting daily functions.
The second profile, Maximum, takes a stricter approach. It
cuts nearly all background activity and blocks non-essential notifications,
leaving only the apps chosen by the user.
This aggressive option looks aimed at
doubling battery endurance when extending power becomes a priority.
Estimated
Battery Life
Another notable change is a built-in
time projection. Each profile shows how long the phone is expected to last
under its settings.
In the leaked example, battery life without Power Saving
was listed at 13 hours and 5 minutes. Standard mode stretched that to 15 hours
and 25 minutes, while Maximum pushed it to an impressive 1 day and 6 hours.
Personalization
Options
While both profiles come
pre-configured, Samsung won’t leave users locked in. Standard mode can be
adjusted with more limits, and Maximum mode lets you pick which apps
remain active for essential alerts. This flexibility should make the new system
more practical than the current one-size-fits-all approach.
Coming
With One UI 8.5
There are speculations that One UI 8.5 will bring a new update to the power save tool. The tweak should help phones last longer on one full charge.
The build is due to ship first with the Galaxy S26 device. From there, more Galaxy phones and tabs should get the update in Q2 2026.
For now, Samsung has not released the full changelog of the One UI 8.5 update. But the new power-saving mode hints that the firm aims to give users more time with their devices.
