The JiaYu G4C announced at a new entry-level $130 price point

jiayu g4c android smartphone

What happens when you take one of the best Chinese smartphones from 2013 and rebuild it with up-to-date hardware? The $130 JiaYu G4C is the answer!

Taking last year’s flagship phone and creating a new mid-range device is something we have seen before with the iOcean X7HD, now JiaYu have performed the same magic while also retaining some of the same flagship hardware!

Gizchina News of the week

The original JiaYu G4 shipped with a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 display from LG, Corning Gorilla Glass 2, 3 mega-pixel front camera, and 13 mega-pixel rear. Shockingly the new JiaYu G4C get’s the same with the only changes being the use of a quad-core MT6582 processor (which will actually perform better than the older MT6589T), 1GB RAM and 4GB internal memory.

As with the original G4, JiaYu are offering the G4C with either a 2000mAh battery or 3000mAh battery, dual-SIM support and space for a micro SD card. Users will also have the choice to run the stock LEWA ROM or install MIUI from Xiaomi on the phone!

The JiaYu G4 was one of our top phones for 2013, and the JiaYu G4C could easily be the best mid-range device for 2014! What do you think, let us know in the comments below.

I believe there are some rumors that the Xiaomi Hongmi 2 will have MTK octacore for the same price of the old one, around 130 USD. Rumored release date is around June.

      Yep, those are the rumours

What I don’t get is how is how will the MT6582 perform better than the MT6589T? I thought it had a lower cpu clock (1.2 vs 1.5) and worse GPU (Mali 400 MP2 vs SGX544MP3 in MT6589T)

      the mtk6589T and mtk6589 both have singlecore sgx544mp..not mp3

This maybe the case but I have still seen nothing to suggest that the MT6582 is better than the MT6589T. Generally these older SGX544 series GPU’s consistently outperform these older mali 400 series GPU’s.

The difference between the 2 mediatek is:
          MT6589T – 1.5 GHz Cortex A7; 357 MHz PowerVR SGX544MP; LPDDR2 533 MHz.
          MT6582 – 1.3 GHz Cortex A7; Mali 400-MP2 500 MHz; LPDDR3 666 MHz.
          That’s all

As processors advance lower clock speeds produce higher results, my early 2013 15″ retina macbook pro 2.7ghz quad core (16gb ram and 500gb ssd), was just swapped for a brand new late 2013 macbook (had several issues with old one) and the new 2.3ghz macbook is now quicker than the older 2.7ghz (I ended up putting a bit more towards the new one and got the 2.6ghz late 2013 (16gb ram 1tb ssd) which is quicker than my friends late 2012 3.4ghz quad core iMac with 16gb ram and 1tb.
although mores law has now been redundant for a while it has not stopped more efficient cores being produced.

I hope they will have same option to pick the ROM with upcoming S2 model 🙂

I have personally owned the Jiayu G3 and G4 and both phones get over 8 hrs of screen on time. And can be used for three days! I also own the iOcean x7 elite which sucks and barely get 4hrs of screen on time even with the 3000mah battery. So I would recommend only Jiayus if you love your battery life. Am also waiting on the updated G4.

My M2S gets 48 hours with 4-5 hours screen on time using 3g/2g/wifi etc.

And why would you want 8 cores? That’s just STUPID lol. I think this SoC is an amazing piece of work by MTK. I wish all phones midrange China phones used this SoC, then there would be a lot more interesting phone on the market. I’m still waiting for the Jiayu G2F WCDMA though, will be the perfect phone 😀

I’d realy like to see JIaYu G4C with 32G ROM and 2000mAh thin battery.
