OnePlus’ controversial ‘Ladies First’ contest thread disappears from the forums

OnePlus continued their interesting yet often controversial marketing strategy with the announcement of another campaign worthy of going under the scanner sometime back, but it looks as though it wasn’t destined to last long.

The contest we’re talking about is the ‘Ladies First’ contest that was being hosted on the OnePlus forums. 50 lucky female participants were to get an invite, but it looks like OnePlus will have to find another way of doing so.

Gizchina News of the week

Right from the publishing of the thread, the contest saw a lot of extreme remarks and responses from the forum users. Of course, that is what OnePlus wanted, but it looks as though things went out of hand which made OnePlus remove the thread.

It isn’t clear yet if it will be put up again (or if this is just some sort of a forum bug), but the thread – previously accessible here – returns a ‘thread not found’ error.

Do you think OnePlus One need to rethink their extreme marketing plans?

Seriously, wtf is wrong with these guys?

They have been mired in controversy since inception, and never seem to be learning from mistakes. Maybe they should change their punchline from “Never Settle” to “Never get it right”!

The marketing/promotions people behind OPO are no dummies. There’s plenty of social marketing experience there. Controversial, stupid, whatever, they’re just dreaming up “edgy” campaigns to see what sticks.

OPO doesn’t need to market the device anymore its over they won people want it. Instead of focusing on marketing how about increase production capacity so people can actually buy it? If they keep limiting supply a lot of people are gonna turn to the newer nubia z7 max instead.

And I thought the ‘smash the past’ was an awful idea rolf.

I bet all those edgy ideas sound better in their heads, too bad for them reality is quite different.

And the invitation system can f*ck off, I just got one but I ain’t even considering spending my money on them
