Huawei Nova 8 / Pro Officially Unleashed, Starting At 3299 yuan ($505) / 3999 yuan ($612)


Today, Huawei held an online press conference for the new Nova 8 series. At the event, the company officially brought two new phones, the Huawei Nova 8 and the Huawei Nova 8 Pro.

Huawei Nova 8 / Pro Design

In terms of appearance, Huawei’s Nova 8 series adopts the design of the star ring lens group. There are a few color variants of No. 8, Provence, Wonderland Forest and bright black. The new No. 8 color uses “dual film and double plating” combined with AG anti-glare glass technology to bring the illusion of stars to the smartphone.

The Huawei Nova 8 Pro uses a 6.72-inch FHD+ resolution display, an 80° super-curved screen design, supports 120Hz refresh rate and 300Hz touch sampling rate. Its global peak brightness reaches 800 nits. Plus, this display supports true +1 billion Color, AI anti-inadvertent touch, color difference △E<1. At the same time, the Huawei Nova 8 adopts a 6.57-inch FHD+ resolution hyperboloid display. The latter supports 90Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. Its global peak brightness reaches 700 nits, and it supports true+ 1 billion colors, AI anti-mistouch, and color difference △E<1.

Huawei Nova 8 / Pro Hardware

The standard version comes with the Kirin 985 5G SoC. The latter supports Wi-Fi 6+ connection, four-network coordination, and NFC smart card selection. He Gang, president of Huawei’s terminal smartphone product line, said that the current online rate of the Nova 8 Pro is 2.2 times that of iPhone 12 Pro. There are also special effects for selfie beauty, and ultra-wide-angle selfies. The Huawei Nova 8 uses a 32-megapixel selfie camera.

The Huawei Nova 8 Pro also supports 3Mic stereo radio with a 5m range of clear sound pickup. The distant sound gradually enlarges as the lens advances when zooming. It also supports front and rear dual scene video 2.0. The front viewing angle is larger, and the picture is more stable. In addition to the left and right dual window display, it can also shoot in picture. The phone provides multiple video story creation templates, supports one-click creation of micro movies, and automatically generates them.

The Huawei Nova 8 has a 3800mAh battery, while the Nova 8 Pro gets power from a 4000mAh battery.  The Huawei Nova 8 series supports 66W Huawei super fast charging. It adopts a “single-core, two-way and three-electrode” fast charging solution. So the phone can charge 100% in 35 minutes. Due to the super thermally conductive graphene heat dissipation technology, it supports the intelligent heating area. The Nova 8 Pro is also equipped with VC liquid cooling radiator.

In terms of software, Huawei’s Nova 8 series runs on the EMUI 11. The latter supports functions such as smart multi-window, multi-screen collaboration, smooth connection of large files, smart translation, and AI subtitles.

Price and Availability

The price of Huawei Nova 8 8+128GB version is 3299 yuan ($505), 8+256GB version is 3699 yuan ($566), Huawei Nova 8 Pro 8+128GB version costs 3999 yuan ($612), 8+256GB version is 4,399 yuan ($673). Both variants have opened the appointment today, and the sale will start on December 30.
