It’s mid-December, and right on cue, Xiaomi has
finally brought the Redmi Note 15 series to the global stage. If you’ve been watching the Chinese launch from a few months back, you might think you know the deal, but
Xiaomi has done that thing they always do—tweaked the hardware just enough to keep us guessing.
The lineup is honestly a bit of a maze. We have five models: the standard Note 15 (4G and 5G), the Pro, the Pro 5G, and the range-topping Pro+ 5G. The most meaningful news for most of us isn't actually the silicon, but the software promise. These are shipping with
Android 15 and
HyperOS 2.2, and Xiaomi is already talking about a quick jump to Android 16-based
HyperOS 3. It's a rare bit of long-term thinking for a mid-range phone.
The Megapixel and Battery Trade-off
The Pro+ is where the real "global" changes happen. While the Chinese model had a 50MP main sensor, Xiaomi swapped it for a 200MP HPE monster for the international crowd. It supports 2x and 4x in-sensor zoom, which I suppose is meant to make up for the fact that they axed the 50MP telephoto lens entirely. It’s a classic trade-off: more megapixels for the marketing brochure, but one less lens to play with.
Then there is the battery situation. The global Pro+ gets a 6,500 mAh silicon-carbon cell. It’s technically smaller than the 7,000 mAh tank found in China, but the global version charges faster at 100W. I think most people would take that trade.
Something for Every Budget
Further down the stack, the Pro 5G is probably the "Goldilocks" choice. It’s powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7400-Ultra and, weirdly, has a higher IP69K rating than the more expensive Pro+. It’s practically indestructible against water. Meanwhile, the base Note 15 models split the difference with Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 (for 5G) and Helio G100-Ultra (for 4G).
Pricing starts around $250 and scales to $600 for the 512GB Pro+. Pre-orders start January 5. It’s a crowded market, sure, but with batteries this big and a 200MP sensor, Xiaomi is definitely swinging for the fences.
