Top 10 tech stories on GizChina this week


It has been another whirlwind week of amazing tech news this week. Here are our top 10 tech stories of the week.

This week we had phone reviews, breaking news, published a resource of 65 octacore phones and even made time to visit Beijing!

1. Top 65 Low-cost Octacore phones from China

65 octacore Chinese smartphones listed with specification details, pricing and whatever else we discovered about them. The list isn’t complete so keep checking back for further updates!

2. $50 JiaYu F1Specifications announced!

JiaYu took low-cost phones to a higher level this week when they released full specification details of their $50 JiaYu F1 smartphone.

3. iOcean X8 announced

Easily the most interesting and attractive of all the octacore Mediatek phones to date. The iOcean X8 packs a 2.0Ghz octacore processor in an alloy frame with Gorilla Glass 3 on either side.

4. Ultimate Oppo N1 review

We continued our series of smartphone reviews with a full review of the amazing Oppo N1, a review described as one of the best on the web by Oppo Ambassadors!

5. Octacore iOcean X7S Elite

iOcean launched 3 octacore phones this week. The iOcean X7S being the entry-level model but still packing a punch with 1.7Ghz CPU, 2GB RAM and 5-inch 1080 display!

6. UMi X3 revealed to have LG display and 4G LTE

UMi’s 2014 flagship phone hit headlines again this week as leaked details confirmed the use of an LG 1080 display, up to 64GB of internal memory and 4G LTE for future models.

7. Xiaomi planning octacore Hongmi 1S

As usual Xiaomi made their way in to the news this time with details of a new Hongmi model named the Xiaomi Hongmi 1S.

8. Xiaomi Mi3S to have LTE

4G continues to be a killer feature which all Chinese phone makers want to offer and Xiaomi are no different! Details revealed this week claim that Xiaomi will launch the Xiaomi Mi3S soon with 4G LTE!

9. Zopo ZP980+ gets octacore chip for $165!

We don’t know how much the Zopo ZP980+ will be for international customers, but Chinese fans can pick the 8-core phone up with NFC, 14MP main camera and LTPS display for just $165!

10. We meet up with OnePlus and CyanogenMod in Beijing!

Monday of this past week was spent in Beijing in the company of Steve Kondik from CyanogenMod and Pete Lau of OnePlus! We will be posting video from the event next week.

    andi, have you any idea when tcl idol x+ s960 with 32gb memory will been released?

      The s960 with only 16gb was announced for the 15 jan, but still not available in the online shops …
      The HTM H100 is the 2nd with 2.0ghz cpu, I wait for it too.
