2012 is nearly over and what a year it has been! We have lived through the end of the world, enjoyed the London Olympics, but most importantly, we have seen some terrific
Chinese Android
phones!
However, 2012 was just a warm up, and
Chinese phone makers are ready to
launch their
quad-core flagship phones as soon as 2013 begins! But with so many phone launches, leaked specifications and blurry photos, which
Chinese phones should we watch out for in 2013?
Top 10 most anticipated quad-core Chinese phone of 2013!
This is lis not going in any particular order as I believe each phone is worth of being number one, but I have to start somewhere and I’m going with the....
Oppo Find 5!
Wow! What can we say about the
Oppo Find 5? It was the
first 1080 5-inch phone from a domestic
Chinese brand to be announced, and it’s the
first to go on (limited) international sale, but what about the
specs?
Oppo Find 5 specification
The
Oppo Find 5 is a beast! It boasts a powerful 1.5Ghz Qualcomm S4 quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM and Sony’s all new Exymor Pro 13 mega-pixel camera! Not only this but the 5-inch 1080 display has an eye pleasing 441ppi!
Oppo Find 5 launch and price
The Oppo Find 5 will go on sale in China first for 2999 Yuan for the 16GB model (3500 Yuan for the 32GB) then it will see release in a number of European, Asian and American markets for $499!
Oppo Find 5 Conclusion
I’m excited! I want one! I want one now!!
JiaYu G4
JiaYu are back for 2013 with an all new flagship phone which will take over from the very popular JiaYu G3. Let’s just hope they can keep their promises and keep fans happy this time round!
JiaYu G4 Specification
The
G4 get’s numerous updates over the current G3, including a faster quad-core MT6589 CPU, a possible 2GB RAM and a larger 5-inch 1920 x 1080 display. JiaYu will offer 2 versions of the
G4 with either a 3000mAh battery or slimmer more compact 1800mAh battery.
The rest of the hardware is still being kept secret but we expect Android Jelly Bean and an 8 mega-pixel camera will be present.
JiaYu G4 launch and price
As the MT6589 chip hasn’t quite started being manufactured in the numbers required I expect a launch of around April of the G4. But the G4 could be one of the cheapest quad-core MT6589 phones at launch as it will cost just 999 Yuan ($160).
JiaYu G4 conclusion
I’m excited but not enough for JiaYu burst my bubble again as they did this year.
ZTE Nubia Z5
The
Nubia Z5 is
ZTE’s
first 5-inch 1080 phone and the
first from their new China only Nubia brand. If you have any knowledge of
Chinese you might be giggling at the Nubia brand which sounds rather rude if pronounced incorrectly.
Nubia Z5 specification
The Z5 offers very similar specs to the Oppo Find 5. It has the same CPU, same 2GB RAM, same rear camera (probably) and roughly the same battery size at 2300mAh, but comes with at least 32GB of memory rather than the Oppo’s 16.
Zte have opted for an Italian designed alloy body with powder coated finish, but while it is sure to be long lasting it has proven to be a love have design.
Nubia Z5 launch and price
The Nubia Z5 will go on sale in China only from January at 3400 Yuan ($545) for the base 32B model. There will also be a Titanium version on sale in limited quantities for $1300!
Nubia Z5 Conclusion
Love the specs, price is good too, but I want to get Nubia in my hand (giggle) before commenting on the looks.

UMi X2
UMi entered the market with the X1 at the same time as JiaYu and the G3, and actually became the phone of choice for many jilted JiaYu G3 fans. The
X2 promises to be an even better phone, but will it manage to overshadow the JiaYu G4?
Umi X2 Specification
What if I said the UMi X2 is basically the same phone (on paper) as the Oppo Find 5 but at a much lower (no lower than that) price point? Well in essence it is as it is rumored to feature a quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel rear camera, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS and 5-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution.
Of course UMi have gone for the MT6589 quad-core chip in the X2 and the rear camera isn’t going to be the flashy Sony unit of the Oppo, but for the price it all looks astonishingly good!
UMi X2 Launch and price
Like the G4, Umi are waiting on Mediatek to get up to speed with the MT6589 so expect an April launch. Rumors suggest pricing is going to be as low as 1499 Yuan ($240) so get your pre-orders in early!
UMi X2 conclusion
Although Umi have decided to stray away from their unique design of the X1 and are verging on Samsung Galaxy Note clone with the X2, this phone is likely to be a superstar once launched!
Xiaomi M3
Xiaomi still haven’t made the M2 available in stores, and they company are suffering from sell outs and stock shortages due to high demand, but this hasn’t stopped the
Xiaomi M3 rumors!
Xiaomi M3 specification
The M3
specification is still being decided and won’t be confirmed for sometime, but what we have heard is that the new phone will receive a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 4 CPU marking the companies
first use of a non Qualcomm chip!
Further rumors suggest a 4.5-display, LTE support, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and between 2-2.5GB RAM!
Xiaomi M3 Launch and price
Don’t expect the
Xiaomi M3 anytime soon as it will likely
launch in October 2013! However the good
news is that it will probably go on sale for 1999 Yuan ($320) just as the M1 and M2 have before it.
Xiaomi M3 conclusion
I can’t wait to see the real phone and spec, but I’m not entirely excited about having to win a lottery to buy one. Let’s hope we see a few Xiaomi stores open up in the next few months.
ZTE Grand S
The Nubia (hehe) Z5 is a China only launch, but for the rest of the world you can look forward to the ZTE Grand S, which is actually a similar phone only thinner and cheaper!!
ZTE Grand S specification
If you know the Oppo Find 5 and Nubia Z5 specification the hardware in the Grand S will be of no surprise, what is surprising though is that this phablet is rumored to measure in at just 6.9mm thick!
ZTE Grand S launch and price
The Grand S will be launched at CES in January and will likely go on sale not long after. Rumored Chinese retail pricing suggest the Grand S will cost just 2799 Yuan ($450) which is quite a bit cheaper than the Z5 and the Oppo Find 5!
ZTE Grand S conclusion
I’m really interested in what ZTE have planned for the Grand S. If it turns out to have the same Sony Exymor Pro camera as the Oppo I might even be swayed to buy one instead!
More great 2013 Chinese phones on the next page!
Neo N003
Neo are another domestic Chinese phone maker who have been lighting up the local market with great prices and solid hardware, so what do they have in store for 2013?
Neo N003 specification
Neo have stuck with their own styling for the N003 which is preferable than the knock-off look of the UMi X2, and they have also opted for a larger 5.3-inch display rather than the more common 5-inch.
However, unlike he UMi X2, the
Neo N003 is expected to have only 1GB RAM, a lower resolution 1280 x 720 display and just Android 4.0 ICS. But the cameras look good with a 3 mega-pixel sitting on the front and 12 mega-pixel to the rear.
Neo N003 launch and price
Neo are at the whims of MTK so again expect a launch of between February and April with pricing expected to be around 1299 Yuan ($208).
Neo N003 Conclusion
A good looking phone for the money, but I’d spend the extra for the Umi X2.
TCL Y900
TCL are a solid company with a great range of phones, and if rumors are true they could have the TCL Y900 MT6589 quad-core phone on sale in just a matter of weeks!
TCL Y900 Specification
Leaked photos of the real TCL Y900 have been spotted on-line already so it is safe to assume the leaked
specs which have been attached to them are probably confirmed. This means the Y900 will get a 5-inch display, 13 mega-pixel rear camera, MT6589 quad-core chip and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS.
TCL Y900 launch and price
The Y900 could go on sale as soon as next week, but with no confirmed we are just making educated guesses based on sources close to the company. As for price expect around 1300-1500 Yuan ($230-$250) as TCL tend to sell at a more premium price, but they do have their own stores and good support.
TCL Y900 conclusion
Great quality phones, but this one hasn’t excited me as much as the others.
Huawei Ascend D2
Huawei are following
ZTE in to the 5-inch phablet battle with the Ascend D2, which offers a similar price,
specification but less than sexy body.
Huawei Ascend D2
The Ascend D2 has had really trouble keeping away from cameras, so we already have a very good idea of what this new phone will look like, and from a design point I’m not impressed.
Hardware is on par with Oppo and ZTE though so expect 13 mega-pixel main camera, 2GB RAM etc if you choose the Huawei you’ll be getting Huawei’s own Hass quad-core CPU.
Huawei Ascend D2 Launch and price
Huawei will be launching the D2 at CES with the phone shipping soon after. Prices are expected at 3300 Yuan ($530) but we have no idea if this will be a 16GB or 32GB phone.
Huawei Ascend D2 Conclusion
Although I think it’s ugly I really can’t wait to see how well the quad-core Huawei performs when up against the Qualcomm S4 Pro in the ZTE and Oppo.
Zopo ZP800
Zopo have long been rumored to be entering the quad-core segment and if rumors are anything to go by we won’t have to wait much longer to see their
first 4-core phone.
Zopo ZP800 Specification
Like the UMi X2, TCL and Neo, the Zopo ZP800 is expected to get Mediatek’s MT6589 quad-core CPU, but in this case running at a much slower 1-1.2Ghz.
A 5-inch screen also makes an appearance, but with a 720 resolution rather than 1080 and a 13 mega-pixel main camera will be attached to the rear. The rest of the spec is unconfirmed and Zopo themselves say the phone is a while off launch!
Zopo ZP800 launch and price
Again expect around April and with prices of around 1400+ Yuan ($224).
Zopo ZP800 Conclusion
This is going to be one popular phone thanks to Zopo’s great support and quality, but It looks to be as if they are playing it a little safe with the specs. Come on Zopo launch a fire breather!
