October 6th is just around the corner and we are about to witness another Google launch event. At the event dubbed “Made By Google”, Google will announce their latest flagship phones, the Google Pixel 7 and the Google Pixel 7 Pro. Together with the announcement of the smartphones, other Google product such as the Pixel Watch will also debut on that same day.
Last year when Google announced the Pixel 6 series, everyone was in awe of the unique design, the build quality and the software that the device offered. The great software didn’t come as much of a surprise because it’s Google we are talking about here. They run the stock Android which is the best and fastest Android you can get now.
Google Pixel 7 Pro Can Be Better
Google Pixel phones have always been excellent devices. They have been one of the most reliable phones you can spend your money on. They’ve had great cameras, great battery life, great screen, you just name it. These phones have always been on point. They are one of the few phones that can give you real value for your money till date. Of course the software belongs to them, so they don’t need to pay any lincence fees to anyone. This gives them extra space to produce flagship phones at the most competitive prices.
The Google Pixel 6 Pro is still a great phone that can still outperform a lot of flagship phones out there. But just 6 months after launching, Google made an announcement about their next edition smartphone which is the Google Pixel 7 Series. This is highly unlike Google, so a lot of questions started popping up as to why so quick? Could it be that they need enough publicity for their next phone? I don’t think publicity is something that a company as big as Google really needs now.
The Google Pixel 6 Pro did have some annoying glitches that didn’t look like something that Google could actually fix. Hence, the earlier announcement of the Pixel 7 to reassure users that a new one is coming. Hopefully, this new edition will correct these problems. These issues should caution you a bit, just in case you are tempted to pre-order the Google Pixel 7 or its Pro model.
Google Pixel 6 Pro Users Faced Some Problems
In this article, I will highlight the main problems that most Google Pixel 6 users are facing. There is a possibility that Google will fix these problems in the Pixel 7 Series or some of these issues may still pop up in them. This is why you need to read through this article. It will help you decide whether you want to go ahead and pre-order the Pixel 7 Pro. Or you will wait to see some reviews and user feedbacks before making your own purchase. (Note: I mostly use Pixel 6 Pro because most of the problems reported were from users of the Pro version).
I will first list four (4) reasons why you should go ahead and pre-order the Pixel 7 Pro. Followed by 5 reasons why you should wait.
Four (4) Reasons Why You Should Pre-order The Google Pixel 7 Pro
1. Great Camera: Like the previous editions, Google Pixel smartphones have always been on par with the top when it comes to camera performance. The Google Pixel 6 Pro came with a 50MP main camera which was one of the best out there. Google’s software processing together with a 50MP camera sensor means that only few can compete with it. If you are a photography lover who loves Pixel phones as well, then you shouldn’t have anything to complain about when you go for this phone.
2. Great Software: This has been one of the main stepping stones of Pixel smartphones. You don’t get any extra layer in the name of Skin which makes the software feel heavier than they should. Google Pixel software feels very light to use, hence snappy as well. In a nutshell, Google Pixel smartphones are generally fast and barely do you see the phones freezing or breaking. To make things even better you get three years of system updates and five years of security updates. So you can enjoy new software features for quite a long time than most phones. The Pixel 7 Pro will come with Android 13 out of the box, which means Android 16 awaits you should you buy this phone.
3. Build Quality :
No matter how much you might dislike the Google Pixel phones, you just cannot complain about the build quality of these phones. Especially with the Pixel 6 series. The Gorilla Glass Victus front and back cover which sandwiches the aluminum frame gives it a real premium feel. The beautifully curved OLED display and the horizontal camera bump that stretches from one end to the other behind the phone is enough to make it look like something special when holding it.

Judging from the specs of the Pixel 7 Pro that was leaked recently, the Pixel 7 Series will not change much from the design of the previous edition. If I am to pre-order the Pixel 7 Pro, this would be one of the main reasons. I just want to have something that looks special in my hand.
4. Price:
This is where Google really deserves thumbs up. They have always tried to keep their prices lower than the competitions. It’s not as if Pixel phones are of lower quality than the competitors. Neither do they underperform in any area. These are real Flagship phones with midrange prices.
According to recent leaks that surfaces online, the basic Pixel 7 will be selling at $599 while the Pixel 7 Pro will be selling at $899. Well, it’s true they don’t pay any Android lincence money to anyone, the Tensor 2 chipset that they would be using also belongs to them. This could highly affect pricing but it’s still very hard to believe how they are able to keep the price of the pro model under $1000.
Apple also use their own Bionic chipset, their own software which is the iOS and in fact, the same company called Foxconn builds both iPhones and Pixel smartphones. Yet Pixel smartphones cost far cheaper than the iPhone. So before you consider any alternative, just remember you could have gotten a Pixel smartphone for a cheaper price.
Five (5) Reasons Why You Should Not Pre-order The Google Pixel 7 Pro
Please note, this does not describe the upcoming Pixel 7 Pro in any way. These are issues that were reported by users of the Pixel 6 Pro. There is a possibility that Google will fix all of these issues in the Pixel 7. There is also a possibility that the Pixel 7 Series will still inherit some of these issues from its predecessor. So let’s get right into it…
1. Inconsistent Fingerprint Scanner :
The Google Pixel 6 Pro happens to be the first ever pixel smartphone to feature an under display fingerprint scanner. Guess what? It was a total disaster. The inconsistency of this feature will force you to recalibrate the fingerprint over and over again. Thinking that you probably didn’t do it well the first time. I advise that you stop wasting your own time because you are not alone. It is actually a problem with the sensor that Google just couldn’t fix.
If you rely heavily on fingerprint scanner to unlock your phone like I do, then you don’t have to be in a hurry to Pre-order the Pixel 7 Pro. Let’s all wait and see if they fix this issue before purchasing the device.
2. Inconsistent Network Coverage : Another Inconsistency here. A lot of the Pixel 6 Pro users reported bad network coverages with their devices. In certain cases, the network signal can totally go off. This issue didn’t look like something that Google could just fix via an O.T.A update. It had to do with the phone’s modem which is mounted on the main motherboard. This is why Google could not fix this issue. Due to this, you may have to tap onto the break pedal for a month or two before making your final purchase decision.
3. Battery Drainage Issue And Overheating :
it looks as though the first Tensor chip has more than one problem. For some reason, some of the Pixel 6 Pro devices had this overheating issues when under intense use for a long time. This overheating usually leads to quick battery drainage. Of course every device experiences a rise in temperature under intense use. But the abnormal heating in the Pixel 6 Pro was such that, you may have to let it rest for some minutes.
4. Bluetooth Issue:
Not a lot of user faced the Bluetooth connection problems. But according to those who experienced it, it was very frustrating to the point that, you just could not use your Bluetooth headset continuously for more than 5 minutes. Bluetooth connections kept disconnecting every now and then.
5. No Facial Recognition:
This is one of the most disappointing part of the Google Pixel 6 Pro. It’s not as if Pixel phones have never used the Facial Recognition feature. The Google Pixel 4XL had a facial recognition. So I just don’t understand why Google couldn’t just implement it in the Pixel 6 series. I guess it all points to the Tensor Chips limitations. (Just Guessing). Hopefully the Tensor 2 will be able to correct all these issues or at least many of them.
There you have it, 4 reasons why you can go ahead and pre-order the Pixel 7 Pro and 5 reasons why you should give yourself some time. Like I stated earlier, not everyone faced such issues with the Pixel 6 Series so you may be one of the lucky ones if you should pre-order the Pixel 7 Pro. We cannot also tell if the Pixel 7 is going to come with any of such issues. Not until it is officially out and users begin to come out with feedbacks and reviews. However, in order not to land your hands on any problematic device, I strongly advise you give yourself some little time.
