Waze now counts with Google Assistant support in the US

A few months ago, Google decided to integrate Google Assistant with the popular navigation app Waze. This integration allowed users in the US to ask Google for anything they might need to do like make a call, send a message, or check the weather. This basically made Google Assistant available in the app, but it wasn’t a full integration. Now, Waze enthusiasts will be glad to know that full Google Assistant support is coming in the US.

In a Medium blog post, Waze revealed the new integration Google Assistant. Now, users can perform Waze tasks while driving and without having to touch the device. Something that can be surely dangerous and even a crime in some countries. Now, you can simply say “Hey Google, report traffic,” or “Hey Google, avoid tolls,”. The latter command usually requires a lot of taps across the app’s menus. Now, everything you’ll need to do is call Google Assistant.

Gizchina News of the week

Currently, any Android smartphone in the US with English set as language will see Google Assistant support through Waze app. To start, you need to open Waze. If the feature is available, Google Assistant will pop-out automatically. Otherwise, you’ll need to tap the mic or see the Google Assistant settings in the Waze app.

If you’re in the US and meet all the requirements, but can’t see the option through the application, don’t worry! Apparently the new feature is rolling out in batches and should arrive for you in the next hours.

Waze offers the following examples of what you can say (You’ll need to say the usual “Hey Google” words before any of them):

  • Navigate Home;
  • Navigate to a coffee shop;
  • Find gas stations;
  • Report traffic;
  • What’s my ETA?;
  • Show alternative routes;
  • Show directions;
  • Allow/avoid tolls.

Hopefully, Google will soon expand the availability of this useful feature to more countries soon.
