OnePlus 10T bending disaster calls the company’s attention

Smartphones became thinner in the past years, and sometimes to achieve some designs, sacrifices come over durability. The advent of “bending smartphones” had some popular names such as the Huawei Nexus 6P. The latest addition to the bending gang was the OnePlus 10T. During his usual durability tests, YouTuber Zack from JerryRigEverything, the OnePlus 10T didn’t resist the bending stage. The device didn’t fare well. Just like its brother OnePlus 10 Pro, the device bent and broke when pressure was applied. As usual, enthusiasts and some customers became concerned with the OnePlus 10 T’s durability. After the initial buzz, OnePlus decided to comment on the situation.

According to the company, “The OnePlus 10T meets or exceeds all of OnePlus” extensive durability testing procedures. This includes a pressure test where the device is suspended with weight applied to the center from front and back. The OnePlus 10T has an enhanced structure engineering design. It can bear over 45 kg of external force in this test at OnePlus’ lab.” Furthermore, the company states: “When designing, engineering, and manufacturing OnePlus device, we ensure they not only offer a design that is beautiful and burdenless. We are also sure that it is also durable so they can withstand everyday usage”.

Worth noting that JerryRigEverything’s tests are usually extreme. Therefore, some of these tests don’t reflect something that can happen with normal use. However, they still state that the design is not durable as OnePlus say. Of course, no one is forcing a costlier flagship to bend, but accidents can happen. Hopefully, OnePlus will make its future flagships more durable and resistant to bending and cracks.
